Steve Jobs Defines Marketing In One Paragraph

We came across a wonderful video of Apple's Steve Jobs discussing the launch of Apple's "Think Different" campaign in 1997. While the entire video is worth watching. At the start of the 3-minute mark, his genius shines even brighter. Steve starts to share what marketing means to him, watch & listen, as he had an unbelievable knack for simplifying the complex.

The part where Steve says, “This is a very complicated world. This is a very noisy world. And we’re not going to get a chance for people to remember much about us. No company is. So we have to be really clear about what we want them to know about us.” is incredible when you think about it. Want a marketing degree? Internalize these concepts and you’ll do just fine.

"This is a very complicated world. This is a very noisy world. And we’re not going to get a chance for people to remember much about us. No company is. So we have to be really clear about what we want them to know about us.”

Think about your own industry. Think about the competitive landscape at a local, regional, national, and even global level. It is a very noisy world, and Steve does a great job of defining what you really should be focusing on when it comes to marketing your business.
